The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose today while speaking on the cancelled trip of the president to Ogoniland to flag – off the clean-up project, said that, for the president to have cancelled his trip was an indication that he has finally surrendered to the superior power of the militants.
According to the statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communication and News Media, Lere Olanyinka, he said, it was shameful and embarrassing that the president, a retired Military General could succumb to threats from militants despite that he told Nigerians that he was going to lead from the for fronts.
He however, urged the president to embrace dialogue in order to appease the Niger Delta Militants, most especially the Avengers in order to bring to an end the hostilities in the oil region and save Nigeria economy from eminent collapse.
You should recall, the NDA had earlier on, through a voice message to Radio Biafra warned the president never to step his feet in Ogoniland and that if he must, he should sign his death warrant before coming.
It came as a shock when the news went viral that the supposed trip planned by president Buhari had been cancelled. The president in his stead sent the Vice president Yemi Osibanjo. The cancellation was perceived as a show of cowardice by some, while others sided the decision.
