A group of Muslim youths attacked St. Philip’s Catholic Church Baki Iku close to Zuma Rock in Niger State, and destroyed properties that worth thousands of naira.
Confirming the reports, the Parish Priest, Rev. Father Gobep Luka Sylvester told newsmen that the Muslim youths stormed the church premises and destroyed properties belonging to the church.
It was gathered that some Catholics had gone to pray and were attacked by Muslims who claimed that Friday is their day of worship and that Christains only have the right to worship on Sundays. Speaking to news men almost in tears, the Parish priest said, “Sometime around 2pm, some Muslims youth in numbering 200 left their mosque after their Friday Jumat Prayer and rushed to the catholic premises, climbed the wall and destroyed everything including the windows, the alter, musicals instruments, and the chapel.
The women who were holding a prayer meeting were beaten up and chased away, including a seminarian. They claimed that the incident has been reported to the police and the police said they have made some arrests and promised to make more investigations.
It should be recalled that barely one week ago, a mobile preacher, Pastor Eunice Oluwale of the Redeemed Church was killed by some muslims in Kubwa FCT, Abuja.
