A Federal Government delegation to the restive Niger Delta led by
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday visited Gbaramatu
Kingdom, a hotbed of renewed militancy in the region .
Osinbajo, who arrived Oporoza , the traditional headquarters of
Gbaramatu Kingdom in a Nigerian Navy helicopter, just after
12 pm went immediately to pay a courtesy visit to the traditional
ruler of Gbaramatu Kingdom .
The Vice President’s arrival was heralded by wide jubilation as
women, youths and children welcomed him with various dances
by different groups .
After being welcomed at the palace of the traditional ruler ,
Osinbajo and other members of the delegation comprising
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa; Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe
Kachikwu, and Ijaw traditional rulers held a meeting behind
closed doors .
The meeting lasted for about 30 minutes after which the
delegation was led to the pavilion where thousands of Ijaw
indigenes were waiting to have a session with the members .
